After School Activities

Carden Academy offers a wide variety of optional after-school enrichment classes and activities. The cost and grade level availability varies for each activity. All classes take place on site at school.


Basketball

After School Hoops by One on One Basketball - This class is a weekday afternoon basketball program for aspiring young players. The one hour instructional sessions combine fundamental skills instruction with organized team competition. Developing players benefit by improving their individual skills such as passing, dribbling, shooting, rebounding, and defending while, at the same time, learning how to work within the framework of a team. Boys and girls of all skill levels are encouraged to join.


Chess

Carden Chess by Success Chess School - The first half of this class is chess study through instructor-led demonstrations and activities, while the second half focuses on tournament play. Success Chess School was founded by Alan M. Kirshner, Ph.D., awarded Chess Coach of the Year in 2000 by the Chess Education Association. SCS trains their instructors to work with young children and guide learning and play through reward and positive reinforcement.


Dance

After School Dance by Capitol Dance Company - Let your dancer explore their creative side in our ballet, jazz, and hip-hop combination class. Welcome to all students in grades K-3.


High School Preparation

High School Entrance Exam Preparation with Mrs. Larese - This 14 week class helps prepare students for the January HSPT entrance exams required at private high schools such as Archbishop Mitty, St. Francis, St. Lawrence, Bellarmine, Notre Dame, and Presentation. Taught by our Junior High Director, the course includes frequent practice tests to help build speed, accuracy, familiarity, and self-confidence. Materials such as textbooks and testing supplies are included.


Music Enrichment


Carden Chorus with Mrs. Hopkins - Our resident Music teacher leads the school chorus through numerous musical genres including gospel, show tunes, and contemporary. Students learn vocal instruction, breathing techniques, and overall performing arts training. The Chorus performs throughout the year at several Carden events including school assemblies and Christmas in the Park.

Carden String Class with Mrs. Hopkins - This class is open to students interested in learning violin, viola, or cello. All materials and instrument rentals are an additional cost when necessary.

Piano Private Lessons - Our resident Music teacher shares her love of music education by offering individual private instruction on campus. Availability is very limited for this high-demand class!


Science Enrichment

After School Science with Miss Wells - Science leaders of tomorrow are guided through a series of hands-on classes that incorporate creative problem-solving challenges. Students can become a science superhero, and receive materials that they can take home at the end of each session. Materials are provided.

LEGO Robotics with Mrs. Rangaswamy - Students work to solve challenges by building and programming robots using the LEGO Robotics Invention System. In addition to having fun, students learn about mechanical and software design, problem solving, and teamwork skills.


Scouting

Daisy Scouts - Led by parent volunteers, Daisy Scouts introduces the positive concepts of promoting progressive and cooperative learning experiences, life-affirming decisions, and responsible citizenship to Kindergarten participants. Troops participate in various on-campus and off-campus opportunities that encourage students to discover their talents and abilities in a supportive and safe environment.

Brownie & Older Girl Scouts - Open to Grades 1-3, Brownie Scouts continues the Girl Scout principles and activities introduced with Daisies. Grades 4 and up Girl Scout opportunities also available. No prior scouting participation necessary to join.

Scrapbooking

KR Learning Scrapbook Class - Learn creative ways to make long lasting keepsakes with your favorite memorable pictures. At the end of the session, students go home with a completed album filled with scrapbook layouts filled with major life events, holidays, journaling, printed media, and artwork.

Soccer

Soccer by Soccer Shots - This acclaimed national non-competitive program comes to Carden Academy. The objective is to introduce your student to soccer, the world's most popular sport. In addition to learning soccer basics, your student will be led in the development of motor skills, team play fundamentals, and good sportsmanship.

Tae Kwon Do


Fong Family Martial Arts - Founded by Master Fong who has over 40 years of martial arts experience and advanced black belt degrees, Fong Family Martial Arts provides training for the disciplines of Korean Tae Kwon Do, Chinese Kung Fu, Korean Hapkido, and Philippine Escrima. At Carden, Tae Kwon Do is the featured discipline and under the direction of Assistant Master Roussere, who has over 20 years of martial arts training. Students and parents are all welcome to enroll!


Team Sports

Our Grade 4-8 co-ed teams compete with other private schools in the leagues throughout the year. Check for this year's game schedule to support our Carden Colts!
